The Opportunity

This position is responsible for ensuring quality, inclusive program delivery with a focus on physical literacy, cooperative play, and confidence building in keeping with High Five and Y Healthy Child Standards curriculum. Direct delivery of child-centric development-based programming for School Age youth (ages 4-12) and championing importance of physical literacy in youth as a cornerstone to building Healthy Communities.

Responsibilities include:

· Plan, implement, and engage in physical activity promoting positive development and lifestyle

· Create an environment that instills a sense of inclusion, safety and learning opportunity for youth

· Complete administration duties as required; including correspondence with families of participants, ensure all program paperwork is completed on time, documenting as needed, registrations, and maintaining an accurate record of attendance for the program.

· Create a positive team environment by illustrating core leadership competencies, engaging in relationship building and creating a sense of belonging for all staff and members of the site.

· Consistently represent YMCA’s values and purpose; comply with all YMCA Policies, Procedures & Best Practices, Child Safeguarding, Provincial requirements and Health & Safety regulations; including completion of mandatory certifications.

· Use a variety of teaching techniques that include, but are not limited to, modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing.

· Plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environments for young children that support emotional and social development, while understanding and encouraging positive self-concepts.

· Develop relationships with external partners to enhance care for children and families

· Ensure hours are inputted in Payworks before the deadlines provided by the Program Manager and/or Team Lead.

· Respond to parent and staff concerns

· Communicate program highlights and challenges with Site Lead and Program Manager

· Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings

· Being adaptable and available to be present at specific sites when asked by the Program Manager

· Other duties as assigned by Program Manager

Qualifications and Skills

· Must have own car or reliable access to a means of transportation.

· Highschool Diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a strong reference.

· 0-2 years of childcare experience with demonstrable evidence of experience linked to the role’s responsibilities

· Experience working with children

· Demonstrated success in plan/organize games, sports, arts, crafts, cultural activities, lead field trips, etc.

· Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or related field considered an asset

· Working knowledge of school system and community resources an asset

· Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, and staff

· Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities

· Strong attention to detail

· Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills

About the Role:

You play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation at our Community YMCA Centre by providing excellent customer service to all participants, guests, and staff. As the first point of contact for individuals entering the Community Y, you will be responsible for creating a welcoming, professional, and helpful environment.

Through collaboration, you will ensures the quality of the participant experience while participating and engaging in Y services, including planning, orientation, subsidy management, and creating a positive facility by being an advocate to support timely, meaningful resolution of participant concerns.

In this role, you will:

- Greet and welcome all participants, guests, and visitors with a friendly and positive attitude. Answer phones, respond to emails, and address inquiries regarding programs, memberships, schedules, and policies. Provide accurate and timely information about YMCA services, events, and programs. Assist with participant concerns or direct them to the appropriate staff member or department for resolution.

- Monitor the front desk area, ensuring the safety and security of the facility. Maintain a sign in/out system for all community members, program participants, and guests that access the Community Y. Also ensuring proper identification and accurate data entry into the system. Assist with processing program registration and payments, ensuring participant records are up to date.

- Delivery of Serving All Member (SAM) quality standards through provision of welcoming, inclusive, and positive participant experience. Includes ensuring effective participant boarding, registration, record maintenance, collection, and financial assistance processes.

- Lead the front desk area of the our After School Program, including registration, safety protocols, providing assistance, connection with program participants, and assisting with reporting, member communication, and behaviour management of program participants.

- Responsible for administrative functions including being a manager on duty, cash reconciliation, facility bookings, third-party billing, and compilation and presentation of Department Reports (i.e. participant reports, cash outs, etc.).

- Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, industry standards, and Child Protection processes in support of provision of safe environment for all participants, visitors, staff, and volunteers.

- Collaborate effectively with other YMCA staff members to ensure smooth communication and operations across departments. Assist in maintaining a clean, welcoming, and organized front desk area. Attend team meetings and training sessions.

Education and Skills Qualifications:

· Experience in Business/Office Administration, Human Services, Recreation or a related field

· 1-2 years’ experience in Recreation or a Business/Office environment

· Experience working with members of the public, including children and vulnerable peoples and diverse communities.

About the Role:

The Program Delivery Support Staff plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and success of settlement programming for newcomer clients across multiple programs. This position provides essential support in operations, logistics, and resource management, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of program delivery. By coordinating tools, tracking expenses, managing resources, and facilitating client services, the Program Delivery Support Staff ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place to meet the needs of clients. Their work directly impacts on the quality of services offered to newcomers, helping to create a welcoming and organized environment for clients to access the support and resources they need for successful settlement and integration.

In this role, you will:

• Advise, liaise and support relevant facility leadership personnel on issues or concerns requiring additional attention
• Assist in arranging and setting up meetings and activities including venues and logistics
• Ensuring all materials required are prepared in advance of meetings, events, activities etc. (i.e., technology, handouts, equipment etc.) 
• Support staff monthly expense claims – review for accuracy and content, communicate to Supervisor any concerns for follow up 
• Develop monthly and annual calendars outlining due dates for information 
• Track staff absences and prepare vacation schedule to ensure programs are covered 
• Support the on and off boarding of staff
• Maintain an inventory of and track supplies 
• Ordering supplies, tracking and submitting related invoices when necessary 
• Coordinating with external vendors to procure necessary resources (e.g., office supplies, materials for client services, technology tools)
• Assist with program activities related to promotion (i.e., community events, activities and resources) 
• Develop flyers, handouts, and presentations for review and approval by Supervisor
• Provide two-deep leadership for activities, events and programming that require additional support
• Ensuring that any resources or tools required for client-facing services are in place and functioning. This could include preparing client packages, managing client-related technology, or ensuring that staff have all the resources they need to engage effectively with clients
• Being familiar with and key contact for staff on database and reporting systems; manuals; attend training events; enter data 
• Supporting the development and updating of necessary recording tools and templates 
• Assist in the creation and maintenance of program reports, including status updates, performance metrics, and other relevant documents (collecting, collating and formatting data and program activity information related to outcomes, survey results, targets etc. and submitting summaries to Supervisor as requested)
• Ensure timely submission of reports and documentation in accordance with program deadlines

Education and Skills Qualifications: 

• Relevant education and/or combination of training or experience in human service delivery, settlement service delivery, program coordination, community development or equivalent 
• Minimum 2+ years of progressive experience in staff team leadership, program development, coordination, or delivery of community and client-based programming 
• Robust understanding of settlement sector as well as cultural competency in working with diverse newcomer populations - lived newcomer experience is a strong asset
• Experience in logistics coordination, managing resources, expense tracking, or providing operational support preferably within a program delivery or service-oriented environment 
• Comfortable using digital tools and software to track client information and manage resources effectively
• Proven record of meeting contract deliverables and reporting on outcome achievement
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to adapt programs based on participant needs and community dynamics 
• Strong writing and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively write professional program reports 
• Experience with maintaining accurate records of program-related activities, including schedules, expenses, and interactions
• Aptitude for analyzing data for trends, accuracy, reporting and sharing with the Supervisor for follow up 
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, ACCESS, Excel, Word, PPT), Teams, and Zoom and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies required for excellent service delivery

About the role: The YMCA mental wellness program, YMind, helps young people experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety to learn healthy coping strategies and connect with like-minded individuals in a safe and encouraging group environment. Y Mind is a psychoeducation and support program and uses ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Mindfulness to support participants in navigating their relationship to anxiety and stress. YMind Teen (13-18) groups meet for 1.5 hours for 7 weeks. Two Program Facilitators are responsible for the intake and assessment of 12 group participants per program cycle and co-facilitation of the program.

In this role, you will:

· The YMind Facilitator will lead this program and engage participants in learning about their anxiety and discovering helpful coping tools through experiential activities and discussions.

· Reporting to the Y Mind Coordinator, the Y Mind Facilitator will deliver the Y Mind Program in participating schools in downtown Halifax and Dartmouth (training provided).

· The Facilitator, in consultation with the Y Mind Coordinator, will also participate in related activities such as planning, information sessions, program promotion, assessment, debriefing, evaluation, and follow-up.

· Effectively prep, facilitate, and debrief all sessions of the Y Mind Program and related activities.

· Help create and maintain a safe, supportive atmosphere.

· Intake and assessment of program participants.

· Maintain a solid understanding of available resources and provide information, support, and referrals to community agencies for applicants and participants as indicated and available.

· Help ensure program content meets the appropriate criteria and meets the needs of all participants.

· Collaborate with partners and stakeholders as needed and maintain or develop positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

· Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures.

· Keep accurate records and provide statistics and other relevant information to the Y Mind Coordinator as requested.

· Perform administrative tasks as indicated.

· Participate in marketing, program promotion, and outreach to recruit participants, as directed by the Y Mind Coordinator.

· Ensure program quality assurance.

Education and skills qualifications:

· Facilitators are required to have either a Masters degree in mental health or Counselling related field or the equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e. BA and 3 years' experience in the field of youth work).

· Experience working with young people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety specifically, 13 to 18- year-olds is considered an asset.

· 2 years experience conducting intakes and assessments is considered an asset.

· Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health needs beyond the mild to moderate spectrum and provide referrals to appropriate medical and community agencies.

· Experience facilitating mental wellness groups or workshops.

· Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and decisions; effective prioritizing and problem- solving skills.

· Exceptional interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.

· High degree of independence and initiative within a team environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Community Y Director, the Child and Youth Program Staff plays a key role in creating and delivering engaging, inclusive, and skill-building recreational experiences for children and youth.

This position involves planning and facilitating a variety of activities — from arts and crafts to sports, games, and hands-on learning workshops — that foster creativity, confidence, and connection.

Program staff may lead sessions independently and also collaborate in team settings. Above all, they ensure a safe, welcoming environment where participants feel encouraged to try new things, build friendships, and grow.

About the Program

The HIPPY program supports newcomer families by introducing a structured, parent-led preschool curriculum designed to prepare children for school success. Through weekly home visits and group meetings, Home Visitors empower parents with the skills and confidence to guide their child’s early learning and development.

About the Role

Reporting to the Cleaning Manager, the Facility Staff (Full-Time Contract) plays a vital role in ensuring that the YMCA facility is clean, safe, and welcoming for members, guests, and staff. Position Summary

The Governance and Advancement Coordinator is a full-time role providing high-level administrative and operational support to both the Office of the CEO and the Advancement Office at the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth. This position plays a critical role in ensuring strong governance practices, coordinated executive operations, and effective philanthropic administration that advance the YMCA’s charitable purpose.

Acting as a trusted organizational partner, this position supports Board governance, executive priorities, donor systems, and fundraising operations with a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail. The role requires sound judgment, exceptional organization skills, and the ability to anticipate needs in a dynamic environment.

Working closely with the CEO, Chief Development Officer/Advancement leadership, and Board Chair, this position helps strengthen organizational effectiveness by ensuring seamless communication, efficient processes, and consistent stewardship of volunteers and donors.

Key Responsibilities

· Coordinate Board and Advisory Volunteer committee meeting logistics, including scheduling, agendas, minute-taking, and distribution of materials.

· Serve as community liaison on behalf of executive leadership and Board, responding to inquiries in person, over the phone, and/or in writing in a timely and professional manner.

· Maintain governance records, including Bylaws, Board policies, Terms of Reference, and Director files.

· Support donors and volunteer stewardship including prospecting activities to increase engagement and retention.

Requirements

· Post-secondary education in business administration, public administration, nonprofit management, communications, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

· Minimum 3–5 years of progressive administrative experience, preferably supporting senior leadership, governance functions, or advancement activities within a complex organization

· Demonstrated experience working with a Board of Directors, senior executives, or volunteer leadership, with an understanding of governance practices and confidentiality requirements

· Experience supporting fundraising operations, donor systems, or charitable administration is considered a strong asset

· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, anticipate needs, and operate with a high degree of independence and sound judgment

· Strong project coordination skills with the ability to manage timelines, logistics, and cross-functional collaboration

About the Role:

The On-call POE Program Staff plays a vital role in the planning, implementation, and delivery of services that support and empower refugee arrivals during their initial reception at the airport. This position is responsible for the seamless delivery of essential arrival services in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including federal and local government agencies, airport authorities, transportation providers, hotels and resettlement organizations.

Under the direction of the POE Program Coordinator, the staff provides direct, on-site support to refugee individuals and families during their arrival process. Responsibilities include assessing immediate needs, offering logistical assistance, facilitating emergency responses when necessary, and ensuring thorough documentation and communication. Whether clients are resettling locally or traveling onward, this role plays a critical part in ensuring a safe, smooth transition and delivering a trauma-informed, welcoming, and culturally sensitive reception experience.

In this role, you will:

• Liaise with government agencies, airport staff, transportation providers, and resettlement organizations to support arrivals
• Provide immediate, on-site support to refugees during their airport transition, including logistical assistance, basic needs support, and navigation guidance
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or unexpected challenges that arise during the arrival process
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure a seamless hand-off to local or regional resettlement teams
• Assist with documentation, transportation arrangements (i.e ground, flights), interpretation, hotels and other logistical requirements as needed
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment for all arriving individuals and families
• Maintain accurate records and timely communicate relevant arrival details with the coordinator and other stakeholders
• Exhibit flexibility in scheduling and task management, given the variable nature of arrival times and volumes

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in refugee resettlement, crisis response, social services, airport operations, or a related field is strongly preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and multicultural environment
• Problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and sound judgment in responding to emergencies or evolving circumstances
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Availability for flexible, on-call shifts, including evenings and weekends, based on flight schedules

YREACH Settlement Staff will provide direct, local and in-person settlement and integration support and work collaboratively with community-based agencies to better understand and support immigrant and refugee settlement needs in areas outside of HRM. About the Role:

The Volunteer Panthers Coach plays a vital role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and development-focused environment for youth athletes. You’ll work closely with YMCA program staff to teach fundamental basketball skills, promote sportsmanship, and create a safe, supportive space for youth development.

Time Commitment: 1-2 practices a week, 1 game (approximately 4 - 6 hours total per week)
Term Length: September to April, with opportunity to continue into summer months if desired

In this role, you will:

• Plan and lead practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and enjoyment of the game

• Provide guidance, encouragement, and positive reinforcement to all players

• Model respect, effort, and sportsmanship in line with YMCA values – especially “Each One Teach One”

• Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants

• Communicate effectively with players, families, and staff, building trust and meaningful relationships

• Manage team behaviour, promote fair play, and guide positive conflict resolution

• Attend required training, meetings, practices, and games (typically evenings and/or weekends)

• Follow all YMCA policies, including child safeguarding protocols

• Complete YMCA onboarding and certifications as required (e.g., Respect in Sport, First Aid/CPR)

• Perform other duties as required to support the program

Education & Skill Qualifications:

• A passion for basketball and working with youth

• Previous coaching or playing experience is an asset, but not required

• Strong communication and leadership skills

• Ability to create a fun, inclusive, and respectful team environment

• Must be reliable, punctual, and a positive role model

• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and foster trust

Our afterschool drop in is a program for school aged youth (5-17) that runs weekdays from 3-5pm. Youth have the opportunity to play sports, socialize, play games and more.

This position is responsible for ensuring quality, safe, and inclusive program delivery with a focus on physical literacy, cooperative play, and confidence building. As a volunteer you will work directly with school age youth (ages 5-17) to assist in delivering programming such as sports, crafts, games etc.

Program delivery will provide participants with a safe, inclusive, and positive environment. The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for designing each class so that it remains in-scope for their certification(s) and is accessible to members aged 13+ with varying levels of personal fitness and experience. Ideal volunteers will have a passion for fitness, a commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and the ability to create a positive and motivating environment for members. 

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for program delivery, including the designing and facilitation of group fitness classes that remain in-scope for the certification(s) you hold/maintain. 
• Arrive 15 minutes before your class in order to unlock and prepare the space.
• Select clean music/playlist(s) in alignment with the type of class and to promote a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
• Complete administrative tasks such as taking class attendance, being sure to check in those participants who join after class has started. 
• Advising participants which equipment to use during class and give recommendations for starting weight(s) or equipment set-up when necessary.
• Ensure high quality program delivery and willingness to maintain certification(s).
• Promote other YMCA programs, services, and certifications during class(es) to help members engage in multiple forms of physical activity, community building, and begin their instructor journey.
• Maintain clear, frequent, and open communication with the Fitness Coordinator and other YMCA staff and volunteers, especially if running late or being unable to teach during an assigned day/time.
• Ensure participants are putting away and cleaning their own equipment at the end of the class.
• Ensure the group fitness space is clean and tidy before leaving.
• Report any known or predicted safety hazards.
• Ability to receive and pass on feedback from members about the class.
• Assist the YMCA staff with documenting any incidents or accidents, no matter how minor, and communicate these back to the Coordinator on the same day. 

Qualifications & Skills

• Group Fitness Instructor Certification  (YMCA, NSFA, canfitpro or equivalent.) This is mandatory.
• Valid Intermediate Workplace First Aid and CPR-C. This is mandatory.
• Experience in delivering group fitness programs considered an asset.
• Personal Trainer and other certifications are an asset.
• Ability to lift moderate-to-heavy fitness equipment.
• Dedication to safety and quality.
• Strong work ethic and desire for cleanliness and tidiness.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Foster a positive, comfortable environment for other staff, volunteers, members, participants, and visitors to the facility.

Childminding volunteers play a pivotal role in ensuring quality care of children and youth, and a positive experience for parents and guardians while they utilize the facility.

Responsibilities

• Help YMCA Childminding staff provide childcare services for infants, children, and youth up to 12 years of age.
• Help YMCA Childminding staff with infant/toddler care, i.e., feeding, changing, etc.
• Provision of child-centric, development-based activities that foster cooperative play, creativity, social skill development and confidence building in keeping with Y Healthy Child Standards.  
• Help with room set-up and take-down, material preparation, activity instruction, and redirection.
• Help staff ensure safety and wellbeing of infants, children, and youth in their care.
• Full compliance with Child Safeguarding procedures, ratio requirements, drop off/pick up requirements, safe workplace/environment protocols, and provincial regulations.  
• Ensure that program space, toys, and equipment is clean, clutter-free, and well-maintained.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator of Health and Active Living, the A.I.M. volunteer will assist with the facilitation of programming. Programming happens in the Aquatics Centre, group fitness studios, at the track, and in the weight room. A.I.M. volunteers will help participants pursue their health and fitness goals in an organized, welcoming, and inclusive manner.

Responsibilities

• Arrive to the site a minimum of 15 minutes before the A.I.M. program starts.

The Opportunity

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Health, Fitness, and Recreation, Weight Floor Monitor and Cleaners are responsible ensuring that the YMCA weight room and cardio centre remain positive, safe, and welcoming environments for all people. This position requires assisting YMCA staff (wellness coaches and personal trainers) in asserting member etiquette, keeping the space clean and tidy, helping with program set-up and take-down, and reporting any known or predicted safety hazards. In this volunteer position, you will not only meet and get to know the regular members but play a pivotal role in welcoming new members to the space and helping them begin or re-engage with their health and fitness journey.

Note about volunteer shift timing:

Our weight room and cardio centre are busiest between the hours of 3:00-10:00pm during the weekdays. Volunteer duties during these hours will look different from those duties during off-peak hours, before 3:00pm. 

If looking for a quieter experience, with a focus on cleaning (dusting, disinfecting) and quiet socializing, than weekends and weekdays before 3:00pm would be the best fit. If looking for a busier atmosphere focused on tidying (putting things back where they belong), asserting member etiquette, and socializing, than weekdays after 3:00pm would be the best fit.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the health and fitness areas such as: the weight room, the cardio centre, the track, the gymnasium, the group fitness studios and the bonus Table Tennis space.
• Regularly circulate health and fitness spaces and put equipment where it belongs, restocking cleaning supplies, and emptying garbage cans when needed.
• Help orient members to equipment and show them where to find what they need, sometimes offering alternatives if needed equipment is in use.
• Promote other YMCA programs, services, and certifications during class(es) to help members engage in multiple forms of physical activity, community building, and begin their YMCA journey.
• Helping staff enforce member etiquette and weight room rules so that everyone can be active and social in a safe atmosphere.
• Report any known or predicted safety hazards.
• Occasionally helping with equipment set-up and take-down.
• Assist the staff with documenting any incidents or accidents, no matter how minor, and communicate these back to the Heath, Fitness, and Recreation Manager on the same day.

As a volunteer you will work directly with school age youth (ages 5-17) to assist in delivering programming such as sports, crafts, games etc.

• Program Delivery: Responsible for assisting in the delivery of hands-on program activities for school age youth (ages 5-17). Program deliver will provide participants with a safe, inclusive, and positive environment. Program facilitation is in keeping with established outcomes/objectives, in addition to YMCA quality and child safeguarding standards, and provincial regulations. This includes, program set-up/take down, preparation of materials and procurement of supplies/equipment, program evaluation and measurements of success. 
• Leading by example and forming positive relationships with youth within the program through supervision and mentorship.
